History of Young & Haggis Insurance

 Welcome, welcome, welcome!!! Congratulations you have found the blog for Young & Haggis Insurance Services Ltd. which, you will find out, truly is a family business. Let me take you back to where it all started with a man with a dream…

 Young Insurance was started by Jack Young (an amazing father and grandfather to many of us here) in 1964. At that time he had changed career paths and moved from the beautiful prairies of Saskatoon with his wife and three kids and was settling into the even more beautiful prairies of Calgary, Alberta. The company was being run by Jack out of a bedroom in their home in Chinook Park, eventually finding an office space in the Chinook Centre professional building. We are now located in a 4000 square foot office condo in the new Douglasglen Business Park in Southeast Calgary.

 Jack built the business from scratch and grew it steadily by buying smaller brokerages, and selling new policies on his own. Jack’s youngest son, Rob, joined the business in 1977 after completing the marketing program at Mount Royal College. Rob is now the president of Young & Haggis Insurance and has been protecting his clients for over 34 years. Jack’s daughter, Barbara Haggis joined Rob & Jack in 1979 and not long after Chris Haggis, Barb’s husband joined the team in 1980. The company name was changed to Young & Haggis Insurance Services Ltd. to reflect the changes in the dynamics and leadership of the company.  Jack decided to retire in 1984 to spend time with his grandchildren and his wife and enjoy annual vacations to Waskesiu Lake in Saskatchewan.

 We have many clients who used to deal with Jack and fondly remember what a great person he was to do business with and what a genuine and caring man he was.  

 Young & Haggis Insurance is a family owned and operated business with 5 family members on the team and the other team members we consider just like family.
